Americana Christmas Craft Projects

Christmas craft projects to match your decorating theme

Christmas craft projects are usually Christmas decorations, though they can be Christmas gifts that go along with any decor. What is really great about Christmas craft projects is, since you are creating something from scratch, you can make the Christmas craft projects match any imaginable decorating scheme.

Krafty Kris’s ideas for non-Christmassy Christmas craft projects…

Who says that Christmas craft projects have to be red and green or decked out with holly and poinsettias? Traditionally red and green just seem to be associated with Christmas, but many people like to decorate using different colors. The Americana theme has become popular recently.

The wreath displayed in the photo goes right along with the Americana theme but is “Christmassy”, simply because it is a wreath. These yarn wreaths, made to match a person’s decor, whatever it is, make wonderful Christmas gifts and are rather easy to make Christmas craft projects.

To make a wreath such as the one displayed, you make several figure eights using yarn by wrapping the yarn back and forth through your fingers in the figure eight fashion. Tightly tie a piece of yarn around the center of each figure eight leaving a tale which you will use to tie the batches to the wreath wire.

The wreath wire is simply a heavy wire made into a circle. A straightened out clothes hanger works well. You tie the figure eight yarn bunches to the wire adding bunches until the wreath looks full.

Did you know? Wreaths (or diadems as they were called) were used in Greece to crown winners of the Olympic games long before the tradition of hanging wreaths on a wall or door came about.

Once the wreath looks just right, you can decorate it with just about anything. Because the displayed wreath is for an Americana theme, we used wooden stars that are painted white. You can also decorate it with buttons or sunflowers for a country theme, miniature felt cowboy hats and rope for a western theme, leopard print bows for a jungle theme, or anything else you can imagine!

Of course, you can use holly, poinsettias, Santa, reindeer and toys as well to adorn the wreath.

Use any color you would like and have fun! This is one of the most versatile of all Christmas craft projects.
