Christmas Crafts for Kids: Easy Baubles

Christmas crafts for kids don't have to be complicated to look great!

Christmas crafts for kids sometimes look like heaps of paper and glue, but these easy baubles are really cute. Not only that, they’re a quick way to use up old wrapping paper and Christmas cards. Make a whole bunch of these fun Christmas crafts for kids and you can even create miniature theme trees to stick in their rooms!

Materials

* Used Christmas cards, wallpaper scraps, or construction paper. You can use wrapping paper, but you’ll need to cut out circles of cardboard to glue the paper down or it won’t be stiff enough.
* Hole punch
* Scissors
* Wool or ribbon (for hanging)
* A circle tracer (just cut out a stiff circle of cardboard in the size you want).

Making the Baubles

When you're making Christmas crafts for kids, you always have to consider the dreaded mess factor. In this case, the baubles are pretty neat to construct and shouldn't give you much trouble, but you'll still want to lay some paper across your work surface (unless you're fond of peeling glued-on Christmas cards off your kitchen table).

For each bauble, cut nine circles out of cards, paper, etc. Encourage kids to come up with an idea before they start cutting. For example, you could have a Christmas tree theme and cut out different pictures of trees, or you could go wild and gather as many different colors and pictures as you can find. That's the fun thing about Christmas crafts for kids: there's always room for the creative touch!

Once you have your nine circles, fold eight of them in half. Cut a slit about three quarters of the way through the circle (from the flat side).

Slide the one remaining unfolded circle into the slit. Repeat this with the other seven half-circles, spacing them around the full circle to create a bauble. When you've finished, punch a hole in the solid circle and add some string or ribbon to hang it from!

Finishing Touches

Christmas crafts for kids don't have to stop at glue and glitter. Why not make a whole bunch of baubles and cover a tree? You can vary the sizes (the smaller you cut the circles, the harder they are to make but the more intricate they look). If you want them to look more like ornaments and less like Christmas crafts for kids, try hanging them with silver or gold ribbon instead of yarn or thread.

These baubles make fun, attractive gifts, too. So gather the kids and start working on these Christmas crafts for kids today!
