Christmas Stationary May Be The Perfect Christmas Craft

Tips for Making Festive Christmas Stationery This Holiday Season

This December you might want to try making “semi-homemade Christmas stationery.” Not only will this Christmas stationary provide you with a fun Christmas craft project to work on, but it will also add a personal touch to all of the letters you send out this holiday season.

As Easy Said As Done

Making Christmas stationary is not as hard as it sounds and it is actually rather fun too. To get started you will need pretty stationery (both paper and envelopes) in Christmas colors, a pair of scissors, a ruler, and a glue stick.

You will need red, green, and white paper. You can buy your paper at a craft store by the sheet or you can also buy your paper at an office supply store. If you can only find 8-1/2” x 11” paper, you can always cut it down to the size stationery you want.

Getting Started

To get started making stationery, begin with a paper in the color of your choice. Along the top margin use a very small paper hole punch (you might find this in the scrapbooking aisle) and cut holes approximately every two inches. Use a ruler for accuracy especially if you anticipate that you will have difficulty with keeping your holes straight. You might want to play around with plain white printer paper first until you familiarize yourself with where to punch the holes.

After you are finished, take a length of red ribbon (or a suitable color or design of your choice) and fold it in half. Place the ribbon underneath the paper and begin threading it in each direction. Once you get to the ends, work your way back to the center and tie a pretty bow when finished. Trim off any excess ribbon that you don’t want.

To end up with a pretty result, you will need to begin with a piece of ribbon that is long enough. It will depend on the size of your paper, but if you are using paper that is 8-1/2” x 11”, you will probably need about double the length of the paper. You can play around with pretty color combinations. Crafting your own stationary is very cost effective too. I purchased 10 yards of thin red ribbon at an arts and craft store for just .44 cents! I got a green roll too.

You can always tie ribbon at both the top and bottom of your stationery. You can also simply put two small holes a few inches to the left and right of the center of your paper and simply tie one bow. Get your creative juices flowing and play around with several different ideas.

For the envelopes, use a Christmas themed paper and cut it to fit into your envelope. Glue it in place. Then when someone opens up the envelope they will enjoy a fun Christmas theme.

If you want to give your homemade stationery as a Christmas gift, make about eight to ten sheets of stationery and envelopes to match. You can package the stationery in a plain manila envelope or a clear folder from an office supply store.
