Christmas-y Door Hangers are The Perfect Kids' Christmas Craft!
Need a Christmas craft to keep kids busy? Try these fun foam door hangers!
It's the holidays, and you need a Christmas craft to keep the kids from driving you crazy! It has to be fun, inexpensive, and good for all ages -- a Christmas craft to divert them for a while without breaking the bank or involving you in an all-day project.
Well, search no further: a fun foam door hanger is the perfect Christmas craft to keep them busy. Start them off making hangers for their own bedrooms, but let them branch out. Who knows? Maybe Santa needs a Christmas welcome on the front door, or the bathroom entrance isn't looking too Christmas-y. Let imaginations go wild!
Materials
-Fun foam in various colors (but especially Christmas colors)
-Fun foam scraps
-Markers
-Scissors
-Glue
-Anything else you want for decorating (glitter, stickers, old Christmas cards: use your imagination!)
Make It!
Begin by cutting a rectangle of fun foam into three equal rectangles. Use a coffee mug to trace a circle near the top of each rectangle (if you like, you can trace it a bit lower and make a "bump" on top for the doorknob: it will allow the hanger to sit more easily and securely). Cut out the circle and bump.
You now have a rectangle of fun foam with a hole in it, and it's time for the kids to go nuts! Break out the markers, scissors, glue, and whatever else you have handy, and watch them go to town. Their door hangers don't have to be Christmassy: older kids might prefer to make MY ROOM: PRIVATE! hangers. Of course, this Christmas craft is so easy they can always make more than one. Encourage kids to take their time and add details and creativity, or this Christmas craft will finish up before you know it.
Other Ideas
Use both sides of the foam to make a dual-optioned door hanger (COME IN on one side and PLEASE KNOCK! on the other, for example). If your kids are creative writers, encourage them to put little jokes on their hangers (e.g.: Dear Santa, The chimney is blocked. Please enter through the first window on the left.)
Whatever they come up with, the kids are bound to have a lot of fun with this simple, easy, and inexpensive Christmas craft!
