Kids love cookie cutters. There is no doubt about it. Anytime they can use cookie cutters for Christmas ornament ideas, they will be absolutely thrilled.

The Christmas ornament ideas pictured are what I call cookie cutter ornaments. They can be left plain, painted, glossed or glazed.

These particular cookie cutter Christmas ornaments are made from pottery clay which does have to be fired in a kiln. However, you can also use the same Christmas ornament ideas with Sculpty clay which can be baked in a regular oven.

Factoid: You can use this Christmas ornament idea to make photo ornaments as well. Just cut a circle out in the center of the "cookie" before it is fired and it will serve well as a photo frame Christmas ornament.

Basically, you work and roll the clay to make sure there are no bubbles in it and it is the right thickness to make the cookie cutter Christmas ornaments. Then, you cut the ornaments out using cookie cutters. Don't forget to make a hole that can be used for hanging the ornament.

After the ornaments are just right, then bake or fire them based on the instructions for the type of clay you are using.

Once they are cooled and hardened, they can be painted or otherwise decorated. These Christmas ornament ideas are very versatile and incredibly decorative.
