Make a Tie-Dyed Shirt in Christmas Colors
This holiday season you might want to try making tie-dyed Christmas shirts as a fun Christmas craft project. If you have preteens or kids in your neighborhood, they might especially like this project. But you are never too old to wear a tie-dyed t-shirt, and making Christmas tie-dyed t-shirts is a festive way to celebrate the season.
A Fun and Easy Craft
Tie-dying a shirt is not as difficult as it sounds, and if you never done this before you will be surprised to learn how fun it can be. To tie dye a t-shirt, you will need a white t-shirt, scissors, dye such as Rit Dye, laundry detergent, rubber bands or wide cloth, a bucket for each color of dye you are using, two gallons of hot water per color dye that you are using (we’re using the Christmas colors- red and green!), a stainless steel spoon with a long handle, and paper towels.
Pick Your Pattern
There are several different patterns that you can choose to make a pattern on your shirt, but for this Christmas craft project we can try an alternating pattern of red-green-red or green-red-green. You will have to put two rubber bands on your t-shirt so that the shirt is divided into three equal sections.
Making Your Shirt
Follow the instructions on the dye package that you purchased, but generally you will prepare the dye first before doing anything else. You will then immerse your t-shirt in the red and stir for about five to seven minutes. Next, you have to rinse the t-shirt and then dip the t-shirt in green. To finish dip the remaining white portion into red again. Rinse in warm water followed by cooler water. Cut the rubber bands off carefully then wash the finished product by a hand in a bucket using your laundry detergent. Squeeze the shirt out using an old towel and hang the shirt to dry.
