Let’s Get Started with Christmas Crafts
It’s Time for Christmas Crafts Once Again!
While Christmas may be more than two months away, now is the perfect time to start planning the Christmas crafts you want to give as gifts this holiday season. Some Christmas crafts, while extremely enjoyable to pursue, do take some time and starting on them now will ensure you to have plenty of time to create the masterpieces your friends and family deserve. Here are some crafting ideas that you may want to begin thinking about.
Knitting and Crochet
Knitting and crochet can be perfect choices for making homemade gifts. While you may be intimidated by the knitting and crochet process, they are not actually as hard as they look at a first glance. Check with your community center or at nearby craft stores. Many offer how-to classes that will have you knitting in no time. Knitting actually only has just two different types of stitches -- the knit stitch and the purl stitch -- and they are both quite easy to learn.
Woodworking
If your Christmas crafts involve wood, you might want to start as soon as possible. Woodworking projects tend to take a lot of time, so you will definitely need to get started early if you decide to pursue this craft. You can purchase woodworking books that contain instructions on how to make many popular items such as bookshelves, jewelry boxes, or toy chests and most craft stores offer woodworking kits for beginners.
Painting Pre-Made Items
If you prefer to work on a craft project that involves wood, but you aren’t up for the time investment of creating the work yourself, you can buy premade items and paint and decorate them as you wish. Many easy-to-assemble ornaments can be made for gift giving. Remember to purchase paint if you want to paint and decorate small wooden Santas or Snowmen. You might be able to pair up with one of your friends who enjoys woodworking. Have that friend make the wooden decorations, and you can paint and decorate them! These Christmas crafts will be a big hit as presents.
Helping a Friend Trim a Tree
If you know a family who just purchased a new home, you might want to help them out with decorating their first Christmas tree. This is where Christmas crafts come in handy! One idea is to make ornaments that resemble presents. Dollar stores or craft stores often sell small boxes used for giving jewelry. You can wrap and decorate these to be used as ornaments that look just like Christmas gifts. You will need a variety of supplies including the actual boxes (which you might have leftover from your own jewelry purchases). You will also need high-quality wrapping paper so the ornament lasts for years. You also might dress up the wrapped boxes with ribbons in green, red, or plaid.
Christmas Crafts with the Kids
You can even include the kids in making Christmas crafts when possible. Some last minute ideas for kids that actually don’t take a lot of time can be making reindeer using felt and old-fashioned clothespins. When the clothespins are assembled just right, they actually resemble a reindeer. And of course, there is always the favorite standby of making paper chains out of red and green construction paper.
There are an abundance of craft projects you can undertake this holiday season and we’re going to be walking you through dozens of them during the upcoming months. So, yes, it’s only September – but that’s a good thing! Now you have three full months of Christmas crafting ahead of you!
