December is the Perfect Time for a Christmas Craft!

This holiday season why not work on a Christmas craft the entire family can enjoy together. There are many possibilities to choose from when selecting a Christmas craft, and one of my favorites is making snowmen from boxes. If you think your family would enjoy making these happy holiday fellows, read on…

Gather the Needed Materials

Snowmen are incredibly popular during the holiday season and they make a great Christmas decorations that add a unique contrast to all of the red and green decorations you will undoubtedly be displaying this December. Making a snowman is the perfect Christmas Craft. You can decorate with your finished product or also use it for gift giving.

Gather all of the materials you’ll need for this Christmas craft before beginning. See what you already have on hand and then add any needed items to your shopping list.

To make a snowman using boxes, you will need the obvious -- boxes. The boxes you choose can be any size. The boxes need to be white, so if the boxes you have aren’t already that color, you’ll need to add white paint to your shopping list as well. You might also want fun add-ons such as pompoms and fabric to make a scarf.

Let’s Get To The Fun Part

The fun part of this Christmas craft is that it is very versatile. The boxes don’t even need to be round! Square boxes will work just as well and can add a bit of uniqueness to the snowmen you create.

Make sure your boxes are in different sizes and choose a larger box, a mid-size box and a smaller box. If you don’t want to make your snowmen out of cardboard boxes, look into getting different size tins.

Once you have selected which boxes you will use as your base, begin with the largest box. Place the next smallest box on top of that. If you are using cardboard boxes, use glue to affix the bottom of the box to the top of the box used as your base. Place your smallest box on top of the middle box and glue it in place. You are now ready to begin putting the finishing touches on your Christmas craft.

You can use the front of the top box to draw or glue on an eyes, nose, and mouth. You can use marker or buy small plastic eyes at the craft store. You can purchase a pre made hat or make one out of black felt. Use thick paper such as cardstock and glue a piece together to form a doughnut shape. This will be the top of your snowman’s hat. Cut a round circle out to be the bottom of the hat, and glue the black felt on to both parts before securing the hat to the top of your snowman. You can use red, soft pompoms to be used as earmuffs.

Don’t forget to add black buttons down the front of your snowman. You can draw buttons on with a black marker or use black pompoms or actual buttons on the front of your boxes.
