Make Gooey Kids Christmas Crafts for the Holidays!

Marshmallows turn into snowmen in these great kids Christmas crafts, perfect for all ages!

Marshmallow snowmen make gooey, messy, sticky kids Christmas crafts -- which is precisely why they love them! Don't worry about the mess (there's always going to be some with any kids Christmas crafts, and this one isn't bad). Just have a bowl of warm water on hand for rinsing sticky fingers. You'll probably want extra marshmallows, too. Kids love to munch on them, but once you've ripped them apart, mixed them with craft supplies, and had ten kids handle them, it's probably better if they don't.

Materials

-3 regular sized marshmallows
-small pieces of colorful crepe paper
-small pieces of brown and black construction paper
-a pipe cleaner
-sequins
-toothpicks
-straight pins

Make It!

These are great kids Christmas crafts for young children, but they'll definitely need help (especially with the straight pins and small work), making this an ideal craft to have older children and small children work on together.

Stick a toothpick through two marshmallows, one on top of the other. Cut the third marshmallow in half to form arms. Use toothpicks to stick the arms to the lower marshmallow. Use straight pins to stick sequins on for eyes, a mouth, and buttons. You could also use small seed beads with older children. Tie a piece of colorful crepe paper around the snowman's "neck."

Roll a piece of brown paper (older children may want to "fringe" it by cutting it into slits) and attach it to a pipe cleaner broom handle (just roll the pipe cleaner around the base of the paper tightly). Press the pipe cleaner into the snowman's arm.

Cut out a small circle of black paper. Roll another piece into a round circle and glue or tape it to the brim to make a hat. Use a straight pin to fasten the hat to the snowman's head.

Working Together

Parts of this craft will be tricky for young children. If you teach preschool or kindergarten, or you run a program with a variety of ages, this is a great project for letting older children take a leadership role! Show the kids Christmas crafts and let the older ones help the younger ones recognize their dreams!
