Melting Christmas Crafts for Children!

Melting snowman ornaments make great Christmas crafts for children!

Are you looking for unique Christmas crafts for children? These melting snowman decorations are fun, easy, and inexpensive Christmas crafts for children of all ages! In fact, you'll probably have as much fun with them as the kids do. Christmas crafts for children or not, these snowmen bring out the kid in all of us.

Materials

-White card stock
-Toothpicks
-Black seed beads
-Orange marker
-Gold cord
-Brown construction paper
-Scissors
-White glue

Make It!

Make a loop of gold cord and glue it to the card stock. Dribble white glue over and around it in the loose shape of a snowman. This is your basic "melting snowman" ornament.

As with all Christmas crafts for children, the fun part comes in the decorating! While the glue dries, color the end of a toothpick with an orange marker. Carefully snip it off and press it into the glue somewhere near the face (remember, he's melting, so you don't have to get it perfect).

Roll a piece of brown construction paper and tape or glue it together. Squeeze a dab of glue on the bottom end and push a toothpick inside (to make a broomstick). Carefully press this into the wet snowman as well.

Use seed beads for eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons. Push them into the snow where appropriate.

Leave the glue to dry at least overnight.

Once the snowman is completely dry, cut out around its shape on the cardstock. Now you have the perfect Christmas crafts for children: drippy, gooey melting snowman that can't possibly make a mess on the carpet!

Other Ideas

If you're in a hurry or want to churn out a lot of these at once, use a glue gun instead of white glue. It's a bit more dangerous (make sure it's a low temp glue gun!) and you'll have to work faster (i.e., have all of your ornamentation ready to go before you start gluing), but the result will work just fine.

Use your imagination when adding decorations! Feel free to experiment with pieces of yarn for scarves or felt scraps for mittens. The joy of Christmas crafts for children is discovering your inner child, after all, and these melted snowmen will let you create to your heart's content!
