Pumpkin Carving Fun for the Whole Family
5 steps to pumpkin carving fun!
Since Halloween is coming up in a few days, I thought I'd share some tips about pumkin carving -- since so many of you are probably thinking about pumpkins right now...
Pumpkin carving is something that kids really look forward to. While pumpkin carving can be kind of messy and a bit of a burden at times, it is really an activities that families can have loads of fun with.
Krafty Kris’s tips for making pumpkin carving fun…
1. Get the whole family involved!
Mom, Dad, kiddos, even grandparents can have fun with pumpkin carving if it is a family event.
2. Pick your own pumpkins
If you possibly can grow pumpkins in a garden pumpkin carving is even more special. If you don’t have a garden, see if there is one around that will let your family go and pick your own pumpkins. If all else fails, take the family to the store and let everyone pick out their own pumpkin to carve.
3. Serve witches brew at your pumpkin carving party
Dry ice with warm water poured over it makes a misty smoke for the appearance of witches brew. Do not put dry ice directly into your punch. It isn’t supposed to be consumed. Rather, use a large “brew” pot with a smaller bowl inside it. Put the dry ice in the pot and the punch in the bowl.
4. Cut the tops off and clean out the pumpkins to get them ready for pumpkin carving
Save the meat from the pumpkin to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread or pumpkin cookies. Separate the seeds and dry them so you can plant your own pumpkin patch next year.
5. Carve the pumpkins making funny or scary faces on them
Don’t forget that kids should always be closely supervised during pumpkin carving. Small children can draw the design on the pumpkin using a marker and leave the pumpkin carving to an adult.
6. Put a candle in each pumpkin
Place a candle in each pumpkin and set them on the porch. Then light the candles and take pictures to preserve memories from your pumpkin carving fun.
