Bookworms Rejoice
If you love to read, you know that having bookmarks on hand is certainly very useful. Making your own bookmarks is a fun craft project that can help you (and your little ones) pass the time and it can also give you something to do with all of the greeting cards you receive throughout the year (especially at Christmastime).
What You Need
You really won’t need very much for this easy craft project. You will obviously need your old greeting cards. You will also need glue, a ruler, and card stock or poster board to mount your cut greeting cards onto. You might want to have markers or crayons on hand depending on how much you want to embellish the bookmarks.
Getting Started
For this Christmas craft project, begin by making a template. Take a sheet of card stock and your ruler and measure out how big you want your bookmarks to be. If you have an old bookmark on hand, you can simply use that as your template.
Cut out several sheets of card stock in this shape. Take your template and place it on the back of a greeting card in the area that you want to cut. You will obviously base this decision on what front portion of the card is appealing, but you can easily make several bookmarks out of one greeting card. Trace around the template and cut out the bookmark. Glue this on the card stock you cut out, and you have a bookmark.
Make as many bookmarks as you want. During the year, if you give books as gifts, you can slip a homemade bookmark into each book you give.
Making homemade bookmarks can be fun and is a great way to recycle old greeting cards. So, the next time you are ready to throw out old cards, tuck them away for when you have time to do this fun Christmas craft project.
