Snowman Warmers: Perfect Christmas Craft Projects

If you're looking for Christmas craft projects that double as gifts, these snowman house warmers are right for you!

The very best Christmas craft projects fit three criteria: they're simple enough to do with the kids, acceptable to give as gifts, and don't cost a lot of money to make. These snowman draft blockers meet all three! They're quick, easy, and fun, use basic supplies you probably have around the house, and serve a very practical purpose, blocking cold winter drafts from slipping beneath your doors.

What You'll Need

Like I said, these Christmas craft projects don't require a lot of fancy equipment. Send the kids running around the house to find:

-- one of dad's old white tube socks (but make sure it really is white, with no holes, okay!)
-- rice
-- three large rubber bands
-- felt and fabric scraps
-- a glue gun
-- very small black pompoms
-- googly eyes (if you don't have these, you can use more black pompoms)
-- orange felt or pompoms
-- small black buttons
-- a small black child's sock.

What To Do

Keep the kids busy with these Christmas craft projects all day long, and you can cross half the gifts off your to-do list. Start out by filling the tube sock about 3/4 full of rice (younger kids might need some help with this one). Use one rubber band to tightly close the top of the sock, and use the other two to divide the sock into three equal parts -- in other words, to make a snowman!

Cover up that ugly top part with the black sock, making a hat. Hot glue the eyes, an orange pompom or carrot shaped piece of felt for the nose, and a row of black pompoms for the mouth. Use the felt and fabric scraps to let your imagination go wild: create scarves, mittens, what have you. And you're done!

Once these Christmas craft projects dry, you can use them as decorations or lie them down in front of the doorway to block drafts. If you're feeling adventurous, there are many other things you can do to decorate your snowman: try pipe cleaner arms (make sure you put some glue around any holes you poke in the sock), a twig and felt broom, a toothpick pipe, or anything else you feel will add to the feel of winter warmth.

They're easy, fun, and inexpensive, but these Christmas craft projects will keep you smiling and warm for years to come.
