Give a Scratched CD New Life with This Christmas Angel CD Craft

Make an adorable Christmas angel CD craft out of an old CD

This Christmas angel CD craft is a wonderful use for scratched compact disks. If you have children in your home, I’m willing to bet you have scratched CDs! You could throw them away, or you could give them new life with this adorable christmas craft.

For this craft, you will need:

-1 Compact Disk
-1 Styrofoam ball (about 3 inches in diameter to match the size of the CD)
-Craft glue or a hot glue gun
-Yarn or Curling Ribbon
-Optional: Wiggle or googly eyes, X-ACTO knife or box cutter

Instructions to Create an Angel CD Craft:

Step 1. Decorate the Styrofoam ball to give the angel a face. You can use wiggle or googly eyes for the eyes, or you can simply draw them. Be as creative as you like! You can give her (or him) long eyelashes, eyebrows, rosy cheeks, freckles, a rosebud mouth, eye-glasses – the sky is the limit.

Step 2. Using craft glue or a hot glue gun, attach the yarn to the Styrofoam to make hair. Again, be as creative as you like; if you want your angel to have curly hair, try winding yarn strands around “curlers” (you could use Q-tips or bobby pins too) and spritz with hair spray to hold in place, then remove the “curlers” when the spray is dry. You can also use old fashioned curling ribbon to create curly hair in lots of different colors. Another great idea is to give your angel braids or ponytails!

Step 3. Once the glue is dry on the “hair”, fasten the CD to the top of the “hair” using craft glue or a hot glue gun. The CD will be the angel’s halo.

Step 4. When everything is dry, attach a loop of yarn or ribbon to the CD so you can hang the angel ornament. The most secure way to attach the yarn or ribbon would be to use an X-ACTO knife or a box cutter to make a small crack in the clear plastic center of the CD, then slide the ends of a loop of yarn or ribbon into the crack. This works especially well if you have fairly thick yarn that will stay in place. Another option is to use a hot glue gun to attach a loop of yarn or ribbon to the CD or to the Styrofoam ball.

This angel ornament can be hung on your Christmas tree, of course, but you can also use it as a beautiful suncatcher. Use a suction cup hook and hang the ornament in the window; the iridescent surface of the CD will scatter rays of light and make the angel look truly heavenly!

This Christmas angel CD craft is easy enough for young children and makes great gifts for grandparents and other relatives; why not give it a try?
